Waterfront Gateway Design Proposal 2013

Waterfront Gateway Design Competition — New York, NY — Carlos Brillembourg Architects

Phase 01

New York, 2013

We aim to change this extraordinary industrial site into a social, ecological and artistic center for residents of New Rochelle. The proposed art park will integrate the natural conditions of the water’s edge to the urban fabric of the city. We believe strongly that nature and culture is a fundamental right of urban life. This is an opportunity to create a community-centric development that drives local growth rather than encouraging more dependency on New York City. Many of the settlers were artisans and craftsmen from the city of La Rochelle, France, thus the choice of the name of “New Rochelle”. As an alternative to “New Roc City” - a mega-retail development constructed in the 1990s next to the New Rochelle Metro North station - the site can be developed as an organic landscape that brings the city together with nature.
